Banana List
Musa plants of the Musaceae family, known as bananas, are widely cultivated for food in tropical regions.Bananas have a fragrant taste and rich nutrition; they can be harvested year-round and are also valued in temperate regions. The plant is a large herb that grows from a rhizome, with leaves emerging at the base of the sheath forming a pseudostem 3 to 6 meters (10 to 20 feet) tall.Leaves are long-oval to elliptical, reaching up to 3 to 3.5 meters (10 to 11.5 feet) in length and 65 centimeters (26 inches) wide, growing in clusters of 10 to 20 at the stem tip.The inflorescence is large, emerging from the top of the pseudostem with many pale yellow flowers. The fruit cluster hangs down, bearing 10 to 20 bunches, each containing approximately 50 to 150 bananas. After flowering, the plant dies back; however, new plants grow from rhizome shoots, and a single plant can live for many years.
