Sugarcane, also known as sweet cane or sugar cane, is a species of the Saccharum genus.Sugarcane belongs to the family Poaceae and originates from tropical and subtropical regions.Sugarcane is a plant with high light efficiency; it has a high light saturation point, low CO2 compensation point, low photorespiration rate, and strong photosynthetic intensity. As such, its biological yield is high, and so are the benefits. In China, sugarcane is primarily used as raw material for sugar production.Newly planted sugarcane uses sugarcane seedlings for propagation; shortly after planting, it develops roots and sprouts many tender buds, forming a clump. When harvested, only the stem is cut, leaving the root in the soil, known as a ratoon, which will regrow branches and stems next year. Thus, sugarcane is a perennial plant; in China, it can yield up to 7-8 times, but generally yields three times within three years before digging out the roots for replanting. There are two types of bamboo cane: those with deep purple or almost black skin, known as black-skinned sugarcane, which is milder and more nourishing.
