Mushrooms (scientific name: Agaricus campestris) consist of mycelium and fruiting bodies, with the former being the nutritional organ and the latter the reproductive organ.Mature spores germinate into hyphae.Hyphae are multicellular with septa, growing by apical extension, white, fine, fluffy, gradually becoming filamentous.Hyphae interweave to form a dense group called mycelium.Mycelium becomes dark brown after saprophytic growth, while the nutrient substrate turns light brown.Mushroom fruiting bodies resemble an opened small umbrella when mature. They consist of a cap, stipe, gills, ring, and false rhizomorphs.Mushrooms have medicinal and edible uses. They are also used as metaphors for various personas and in cartoon characters.
