Nameko mushrooms are also known as pearl mushrooms, slippery agarics, or silver top matsutake in Chinese.Their scientific name is Pholiota nameko.In botanical classification, they belong to the division of Fungi, phylum Basidiomycota, class Hymenomycetes, order Agaricales, family Hygrophoraceae, and genus Pholiota.They are a rare variety, originally from Japan. Due to the slippery texture on their surface when eaten, they are named for this characteristic. They were first cultivated in southern Liaoning since the mid-1970s, with main production areas now being northern Hebei, Liaoning, and Heilongjiang provinces.
