Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) is an annual twining herb with no hair, commonly known as angle bean, ginger bean, or yardlong bean.It can be divided into long beans and short beans.The terminal leaflets are ovate-elliptical, measuring 5–13 cm in length and 4–7 cm in width.The apex is acute, and the base is nearly circular or broadly wedge-shaped.Both surfaces are hairless, with lateral leaflets obliquely ovate.Inflorescence is axillary raceme.Calyx is bell-shaped and hairless.Flowers are light purple, about 2 cm long, with the upper part of the style covered in pale yellow hairs.Pods are linear, hanging down, and can reach up to 40 cm in length.Flowering and fruiting period is from June to September.September.
